PORAC, Pampanga – Senator Lito Lapid led the unveiling of the Leon Guerrero monument in Barangay Pio, Porac, a tribute from his fellow Poraqueños for his years of public service as vice governor, governor, and senator.
The monument honors Lapid’s iconic role as Leon Guerrero, the Filipino counterpart of the Lone Ranger from Western films. The 1980 movie, which helped catapult him to fame, was filmed in Barangay Pio.
Lapid, a native of Porac, expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying the character played a significant role in his career, both in entertainment and politics.
The theme song of Leon Guerrero, performed by Pampanga-born singer Fred Panopio, later became Lapid’s campaign jingle in his political career.
Local officials and residents gathered for the ceremony, highlighting Lapid’s contributions to Pampanga’s development, from his early years in politics to his current Senate tenure.
The senator, who is seeking re-election in the May 12 polls, has remained popular in Pampanga, where he served as governor from 1995 to 2004.
Lapid has also been a key supporter of infrastructure projects in Porac, including the newly inaugurated P420-million municipal hall.
The Leon Guerrero monument is expected to become a landmark in Barangay Pio, celebrating both Lapid’s cinematic legacy and his impact on local governance.
