ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin has ordered the shutdown of an illegal slaughterhouse located in Delos Santos Street, Barangay Lourdes North West on November 2.
The said shop violated City Ordinance 431; Republic Act 9003, or Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000; and Republic Acts 9296 and 10536, also known as The Meat Inspection Code of Philippines.
Moreover, Mayor Lazatin said that continuous inspection of meat shops will be conducted for the safety of his constituents.
He also reminded Angelenos to stay vigilant and to not be afraid to report if they know backyard slaughterhouses who sell double dead meat.
“Open po ang opisina ko para sa mga hinaing ninyo. Help me to clean our City from people who know nothing but to abuse and take advantage of others,” he said.
To prevent the spread of the unconfirmed virus, the pigs were terminated and buried at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Barangay Pampang.
As of writing, three workers of the illegal meat shop were detained at Angeles City Police Office – Station 2. They were identified as Joan Nersy Balboa, Aries Vergara Velasco, and Justine Sicat Oyco.
The alleged owner, a certain Melchor De Guzman, is still at large. Joining the Mayor during the surprise inspection were personnel from Angeles City Police Office, City Veterinary Office, Barangay LNW Council, Angeles City Traffic Development Office, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office.
