ANGELES CITY – In keeping up with the ‘bayahihan’ spirit, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. will be donating his two-month salary worth P228,000 to the six community pantries currently operating in the city.
The said amount will be used to purchase 240 boxes of corned beef and 57 sacks of rice which will be divided equally and delivered to the six community pantries on April 20, 2021 found in front of Immaculate Concepcion Church in Barangay Balibago; JK Community Pantry in front of Tollhouse; near Astro Park in Barangay Balibago; NEPO Community Pantry; Barangay Sto. Rosario; and Barangay Claro M. Recto.
“We, Filipinos, are known all over the world for keeping the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ alive, even during these modern times. Ngayon natin dapat mas higit ipamalas ang pagmamalasakit at pagtutulungan sa ating komunidad, lalo na ngayong hinaharap pa rin natin ang pandemya,” Lazatin shared.
Mayor Lazatin said the initiative aims to inspire and encourage more Angeleños in helping their kababayans, promoting hope and humanity.
“Patuloy po tayong magtulungan nang matapos na ang pagsubok na ito,” Lazatin appealed.
Further, the city government has been providing food assistance to Angeleños who contracted COVID-19 and even extending aid to their families, beginning on April 9, 2021.
To date, 377 families have already received food assistance.
Some 547,137 food packages have been distributed by the city government since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and during the implementation of the community quarantine, – 152,616 during the first wave; 163,853, second wave; and 230,668, third wave. Free seeds were also distributed simultaneously in the city’s 33 barangays, to ensure food security of all households.
The distribution of free seeds – okra, sitaw, petchay, mustasa, upo, kalabasa, sili, tomato, and talong – was part of the Luntian sa Barangay Lingap project of Mayor Lazatin, procuring P5.5 million worth of seeds. Residents were encouraged to conduct Urban Gardening, which hopes to make organic vegetables available in every Angeleños backyard.
