Lazatin targeting drug-free Angeles

CLARK FREEPORT — Newly-elected Angeles City mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin said he will strengthen all the 33 Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils by adopting some measures that would make Angeles a drug free community.

“One of my top priorities is to improve the peace and order of Angeles and clear the city from illegal drugs,” Lazatin told members of the Pampanga Press Club during the May edition of News@Hues held every third Tuesday of the month at Park Inn by Radison Hotel here.

Lazatin (PFP) said he will involve various youth organizations including the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in his advocacy against the menace of society.

“Palakasin natin ang sports program para sa mga kabataan upang hindi sila mabiktima ng iligal na droga,” Lazatin quipped.

Illegal drugs, specifically methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and marijuana are the most abused substances not only in Angeles City but also in other places in the country.

At least three kitchen-type shabu laboratories have been dismantled by authorities in separate areas including Villa Dolores, Henson Ville and Timog Park all in Angeles City during the previous administration.

Lazatin also vowed to improve the medical services and make sure that medicines are ready available for the needy patients at the Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA).

“Health and wellness of my constituents is part of our priority agenda. Kailangan baguhin natin ang sistema sa ONA at ayusin ang serbisyo para sa higit na nangangailangan,” Lazatin explained, adding that zero balance billing will be his administration’s objective.

A transition team has been formed for Lazatin’s assumption into office on June 30. The group is being headed by lawyer Willy Rivera. –Jess Malabanan
