LTO to recommend sanctions to three bus companies for substandard terminal facilities

In line with the instruction of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. to ensure the comfort of commuters amid the ongoing travel of millions of Filipinos for the May 12 elections, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, will recommend sanctions to three bus companies over below standard operation of their terminals in Cubao, Quezon City.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II personally discovered that three bus companies are not complying with the standard set by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTRFB) during his surprise road worthiness inspections on Saturday, May 10.

Asec Mendoza personally check the tires and review the maintenance records of passenger buses of the three companies in order to ensure that they are complying with road safety regulations.

But during the inspections, Asec Mendoza could not help but reprimand bus terminal managers over substandard level of passenger convenience.

“Passengers are the lifeblood of PUV operation, thus, they have the obligation to treat them well, including good maintenance of their facilities. Sa nakita ko sa personal kong inspection, talagang mapapailing ka na lang talaga, lalo na kapag nakita mo ang mga comfort rooms nila,” said Asec Mendoza.

The three bus companies are Mark Eve’s Transit, Elavil, and Eagle Star.

“While the three bus firms are compliant in terms of road safety, Asec Mendoza said they failed in terms of passenger convenience.

“I will personally report this to our DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon and our LTFRB Chair, Teofilo Guadiz III, for immediate action,” said Asec Mendoza.

Earlier, Chairperson Guadiz ordered the closure of seven bus terminals in Pasay City over passenger convenience issues like inadequate passenger facilities and non-submission of terminal compliance documents.

Asec Mendoza earlier ordered all LTO Regional Directors to intensify the road safety inspections in bus and other PUV terminals amid the ongoing travel of Filipinos to their home provinces for the May 12 elections.
