The Malolos Toys and Hobbies Convention (MALCON) to kick-off at Vista Mall in San Fernando, Pampanga on October 28-30, the first time after series of events in Bulacan.
MALCON has partnered with Vista Mall Pampanga, which brings to the region a world-class mall experience and its homegrown brands AllHome, AllDay and Coffee Project.
This is one of the Philippines’ largest toys and hobbies event that aims to gather once again toy enthusiasts, entertainment and gaming aficionados, cosplayers, artists/musicians, collectors and hobbyists.
Over 5,000 toys from various anime and Japanese shows, movies, games, and art pieces will go on display during the event dubbed as Vista Mall Hobby Con.
Popular life-size toy maker and designer Jerry Santos will exhibit his six-foot masterpieces that include various popular characters that are known by many in the movies and anime.
Guest Speakers
To trumpet Bulacan’s impeccable talent, MALCON invited anew its very own Christian Mark Rodil, the creator of MALCON mascot and the costume designer of “Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series” to be part of our Vista Mall Hobby Con as one of our guest speakers. MALCON will also be guesting a Paranormal expert and a social media influencer – “KABABALAGHAN / Bass Caleon Cortez”, who is part of one of the biggest Filipino vloggers to this date, “Team Bugok” from Pulilan, Bulacan to emphasize the Halloween season and tell us extraordinary stories that might solve some of mysteries between the unseen world.
One of the most well-known vintage collectors in the pop culture scene will also be part of our MALCON’s Vista Mall Hobby Con, “Krazykyle – The Filipino Picker”, Mark Anthony Gianan.
Cosplay Competition
The MALCON is hosting a Cosplay Competition that is open for both adults and kids at ages 12 and below. Cosplay participants can wear costumes from anime, movies, comics and games genres. The free registration on-site for “Kiddie Cosplay” is not later than 1:00 pm, and “Adult Cosplay” is not later than 3:00 pm on October 30, 2022, Sunday. Cosplayers will be judged by their creativity of their costumes, and how they ramped and performed on stage depicting their character. The lucky winners are granted to receive award prizes.
Anime Music Experience
Several local bands and music artists will also perform various anime songs at the event. They are: “Shumi”, “sinta”, “Pen & Scissors”, “Katrina and the Pussycat Dolls”, “Partakers”, “A Way to Stellar”, “Secret Menu”, “SSUNN”, and “Pax Machine”. These Bulacan-based music artists will perform anime theme songs such as: “Nandemonaiya”, “Every Summertime”, “Silhouette”, and among others.
Toy Exhibit
Various Bulacan and Pampanga-based collectors will also display toys from: “Gundam Mecha Robots and action figures by – KGMAC: Kapampangan Gundam Mecha Arts and Crafts”, “The Joker Collection by – BEATDOWN”, “Batang 90’s figures by – CAREIAHNS”, “Voltes V DX Soul of Chokogin – Carlo Miguel Cortes”, “Life size Pokemon by – John Harvey Mia”, “Moratoys”, “Scratch Toy Builder by – Al Siochi”, “Scratch Toy and Diorama Builder by – Harold Jeyar Taban”, “Clay Sculptures by – Bryan Rey Samaniego”, “Funko Pop Collections by – John Bryan”, and among others.
Merchants
Thirty merchants will also showcase their wide-ranging products, vintages, custom-mades, clothing, and collectibles during the three-day event, wherein enthusiasts can buy their favorite toys.
Card Tournaments and Tekken Tournament
Another highlight of MALCON’s Vista Mall Hobby Con event is the marathon card tournaments of “Magic the Gathering”, “Yu-Gi-Oh”, “One Piece“, “Pokemon Trading Card“, “Digimon“, and “Vanguard Cardfight“.
Event partner Beatdown Toys and Hobby Shop will host the card game competitions.
Aside from these, MALCON is hosting a Tekken tournament licensed by Japan-based Bandai Namco. This tournament has been one of the favorites of players and geeks and even attracts more participants to join the event and sets the participants to bring their A-game and win prizes that MALCON and Beatdown Toys and Hobby Shop have prepared.
Marlo Magtibay, vlogger of Anime Kabayan YouTube Channel and Laguna-based Eureka Cosplay Club, will host the event, which is free for all ages. Health protocols such as face mask, proper hygiene and physical distancing shall be observed on the event grounds.
Otep Crisostomo, vlogger of OGAG and Kuya Otep pages are followed by over half a million people, and Radio Host of Filipino Artists’ channel – Rakista Radio, will also host the event.
The MALCON tradition started in 2018 and it has been a crowd drawer, breaching people count year-by-year from 6,000 to over 26,000 in attendance.
