Marcoleta pushes bill to empower barangays

PUERTO PRINCESA, Philippines – Senatorial candidate Rodante Marcoleta underscored his commitment to strengthening barangay governance during the Quarterly National Convention of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines at the Citystate Asturias Hotel on March 27, 2025.

Addressing local legislators, Marcoleta highlighted his advocacy for barangay officials, recognizing them as the government’s frontliners in public service. He cited House Bill No. 9400, also known as the “Barangay Affairs and Development Commission Act,” as a key legislative proposal he aims to push in the 19th Congress.

The bill seeks to establish the Barangay Affairs and Development Commission, tasked with supporting barangay-led initiatives. It also proposes the creation of a Barangay Development Fund to ensure adequate financial resources for local projects and the provision of reasonable honoraria for barangay officials and employees.

Marcoleta emphasized that empowering barangays through sustained funding and institutional support is essential to enhancing local governance and service delivery across communities.
