ANGELES CITY – The ban on the selling, distribution and neighborhood discharge of firecrackers here effectively minimized fireworks-related incidents with only minor injuries were reported.
In a text message sent to Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) City Director Enrico Vargas said that no incidents related to indiscriminate firing and stray bullets were reported and recorded by the local police.
“Only firecracker victims with minor injuries were reported to the ACPO. The firecrackers were bought elsewhere since the city is observing a total ban on these,” the police chief said.
ACPO Chief Vargas also informed Pamintuan that cases will be filed against merchants who were caught selling the prohibited types of pyrotechnics.
On the other hand, the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO) reported zero casualties and injuries during its 24/7 operations for the holidays.
“Even if it is holiday season, our personnel are on full alert to closely monitor and respond to any untoward incident that might happen especially during the New Year celebration. We are on full operation,” said ACDRRMO Chief Francis Pangilinan.
Meanwhile, Mayor Pamintuan extended his commendation to the city’s peace and order, emergency and disaster risk reduction task force for their proactive work.
The local government of Angeles has banned the sale and distribution of fireworks in the city in compliance with Presidential Executive Order No. 28, Series of 2017.
Furthermore, the EO also limits the use and display of pyrotechnics throughout the country in officially designated community areas supervised by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
