The principal of Mauaque Resettlement Elementary School (MRES)in Mabalacat City, Pampangalauded a businesswoman for donating a memorial library to their school.
“I have been assigned in Mabalacat for the past 16 years and this is the first someone donated a library,” said MRES Principal Ruby Laquindanum during the blessing and turn-over ceremony.
Laquiandanum said Minerva De Guzman did not only donate books but shouldered the construction of the library and gave two personal computers.
De Guzman donated the library to remember the “good deeds” of her husband, Reintrido De Guzman, who died in 2015. She was accompanied by her son, Jay, and Atty. Mai Mai Tiglao-Cayanan duringthe blessingon February 28. The simple ceremony coincided with birthday of Mr. De Guzman, who was fondly called Rene.
“My husband was helping a lot when he was still alive but he refused to be named as the donor. Rene loved to donate to schools,” said Minerva.
In her short speech, Jay said,“my father who worked then for the national government made sure that no one would be displaced.” He was referring to the houses near the Mabalacat Clark Gate which were threatened by demolition.
“My father really helped silently,” he added.
Tiglao helped the De Guzmans determine which school they should help. Tiglao is a village-mate of Rene in Barangay San Joaquin.
There are some 2,300 students at MRES.
