Bacolor, Pampanga – A symbol of remembrance and resilience now stands in this lahar-stricken town, once buried by the fury of Mt. Pinatubo’s 1991 eruption.

The Pampanga provincial government, Bacolor municipal government, and Foundation for Lingap Kapampangan Inc. unveiled a commemorative marker made from Mt. Pinatubo’s own sand and lahar — the same materials that once engulfed the town. The marker was installed near the museum of San Guillermo Parish, which consented to house the tribute.

Once splintered by devastation, Bacolor’s communities are reuniting, and former residents have begun returning. The marker aims not only to memorialize the tragedy but to celebrate Bacoloreños’ enduring spirit and collective recovery.
