The Maritime Training Activity (MTA) Seagull 2024 between the Philippine Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy officially commenced in a ceremony held at Nakhoda Hall, Naval Training Center, Muara Naval Base, on October 7, 2024.
Brigadier General Edwin E. Amadar PN(M), the Fleet-Marine Ready Force Commander and head of the Philippine Navy delegation, graced the event. In his welcome remarks, Brig. Gen. Amadar emphasized that MTA SEAGULL serves as a crucial platform for enhancing interoperability and strengthening the operational readiness of both nations.
“In today’s complex maritime environment, the threats and challenges we face continue to evolve. The partnerships we cultivate, such as the one between the Philippine Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy, are essential in ensuring we are prepared to confront these challenges together,” said Brig. Gen. Amadar.
A comprehensive range of activities will be featured in this exercise, beginning with operational planning and communication discussions tailored to the various serials and events for the two-day sea phase. The exercise will also include a Navy SEALs workshop focused on Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) operations, as well as Unmanned Aerial Surveillance (UAS) collaboration and training. Additionally, participants will engage in community relations program, expert exchanges, and sports events.
This exercise also aims to strengthen defense relations and enhance cooperation, interoperability, and understanding between the two navies.
