Nanay Partylist provides safe and clean water to Mt. Kanlaon evacuees

Following the December 9, 2024, eruption of Mount Kanlaon, the Nanay Partylist stepped in to aid displaced families in La Castellana, Negros Occidental. They distributed 100 slim jars of safe drinking water to assist evacuees affected by the volcanic activity.

Mount Kanlaon, an active volcano in the Philippines, erupted last month, spewing ash and gases up to three kilometers into the atmosphere. The eruption triggered precautionary evacuations within a six-kilometer radius as authorities prioritized public safety.

Known for its mission to support families and communities, the Nanay Partylist quickly mobilized resources to address the immediate need for clean water among evacuees. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to provide relief to those impacted by natural disasters.

As of January 2025, relief operations remain underway, with various government agencies and organizations actively supporting affected residents. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has been coordinating assistance, ensuring evacuees have access to basic necessities and monitoring their welfare.

The volcano remains under Alert Level 3, signifying possible further eruptions. Ashfall has disrupted daily life in nearby communities, leading to health concerns, school closures, and restricted movement in certain areas. Local authorities and scientists continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further harm.

The efforts of groups like the Nanay Partylist highlight the importance of collective action in responding to crises, demonstrating solidarity and compassion in times of need.
