Nartatez replaces Torre as new PNP chief

MANILA, Philippines – Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed on Tuesday, August 26, that General Jose Melencio Corpuz Nartatez Jr. has been appointed as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), replacing General Nicolas Torre III.

Nartatez, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Tanglaw-Diwa Class of 1992 from Ilocos Sur, previously served as the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) regional director, Director for Intelligence, and PNP Deputy Chief for Administration before his latest appointment.

Torre, who assumed the top police post only in March 2024, was officially relieved from his position through a Malacañang order citing a “regular leadership transition” within the police force. The Palace, however, has yet to disclose the full details behind his relief.

The turnover ceremony between Torre and Nartatez is expected to take place at Camp Crame within the week.
