NCC to host PH’s first Spartan Stadion

By Trixie Joy B. Manalili

NEW CLARK CITY, Tarlac (PIA) — New Clark City (NCC) Athletics Stadium will host the first-ever Spartan Stadion in the country on June 11, following its recent reopening to the public.

Spartan is a series of obstacle races of different lengths and difficulty levels designed to physically challenge every participant by going through mud, water, barbed wire and other obstacles.

It includes Super Spartan, Spartan Beast, Ultra Beast, Spartan Sprint, and Spartan Stadion.

In a statement, Bases Conversion and Development Authority Senior Vice President for Corporate Services Arrey Perez stressed his optimism on the impact of the event to the country’s sports landscape, and recovery from the pandemic.

“Hosting these momentous races cements NCC’s profile as a prime venue for sporting events and as an ideal destination for developing athletes from all walks of life. We share Spartan Race Philippines’ vision of boosting Filipinos’ confidence in the country’s ability to recover from this health crisis through sports and wellness,” Perez said.

For his part, Spartan Race Philippines General Manager and Managing Partner Marc Laurenze Celis cited a new chapter in Philippine sports.

“After more than 2,790 years, let me just say we’ve just gone full circle. Today, I am proud to announce that the Stadion is now in the Philippines. On the morning of June 11, 2022, Filipino athletes will be gathered here in the historic NCC Stadium in Tarlac,” he stated.

Aside from the Stadion race, NCC Athletics Stadium will also serve as the venue of the Spartan Hurricane Heat Race on June 10, and the Spartan Kids Qualifying Race on June 11.

Spartan is the world’s leading wellness and endurance brand, with 250 events across more than 40 countries on six continents.
