Angeles City — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Pampanga 3rd District Engineering Office announced the opening of the newly constructed Abacan Bridge, a project aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity in the city. The bridge spans 70.7 meters over the Abacan River, linking Barangay Ninoy Aquino and Barangay Pulung Maragul.
Built under the agency’s Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) initiative, the Abacan Bridge features robust structural elements including bored pile foundations, piers, abutments, and a reinforced deck slab. These design components ensure durability and longevity, supporting the city’s growing transportation needs.
In addition to the bridge itself, the project includes improved approach roads, redesigned intersections, and pedestrian-friendly features such as sidewalks and guardrails. These enhancements are expected to boost economic activity, improve emergency response times, and support overall urban development in Angeles City.
Local residents and business owners have welcomed the new infrastructure, noting that it offers a faster and more efficient route for daily commutes and commercial transport. The bridge is already contributing to smoother traffic flow and reduced travel time between key areas of the city.
The DPWH’s commitment to sustainable urban progress is evident in this project, which not only addresses current connectivity challenges but also lays the groundwork for future development. As Angeles City continues to grow, the new Abacan Bridge stands as a testament to effective public infrastructure that delivers practical benefits to the community.
