The next president of the country should at least be a college graduate, says a leading election lawyer turned senatorial candidate.
Lawyer Romulo Macalintal said he is pushing for electoral reforms that would put into public office qualified candidates and not the popular choices.
Through the years, some popular candidates, especially celebrities, have been elected to public office. These include the position of the President which was once occuppied by action star turned politician Joseph Estrada.
Macalintal, who is pushing for expanded benefits for senior citizens and pwds, has served as lawyer for top elective officials of the land. Currently, he is the counsel for VP leni robredo in the electoral protest filed against her by Bongbong Marcos.
While not a member of any polotical party, he is also a member of the so-called Otso Diretso team of senatorial candidates identified with the vice president.
