BALANGA CITY — There are no recorded cases of death due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among the staff of Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
BGHMC Chief Glory Baltazar revealed that a total of 102 healthcare workers were infected after a trauma surgeon was exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 patient.
“It was April 16 when our lead COVID-19 point person tested positive. I instructed all employees then that no one will be allowed to go home — get tested first,” she stressed.
The said trauma surgeon already recovered as Baltazar commended her for her heroic service of putting her life in danger in attempt to save someone’s life.
She also mentioned she kept shrugging off public criticisms thrown at her and said she only cared for the health and safety of BGHMC personnel.
“I am happy that from the 102, there are no casualties. I don’t care if there’s someone who is mad at me. My concern is no one died from my staff,” the hospital chief emotionally narrated.
She also emphasized realizations due to the pandemic such as never getting their guards down amid the war against the invisible enemy.
“I want to inform all of you that out of the 102 patients who turned positive to the disease, 93 of them did not feel any symptoms,” she announced.
Moreover, Balatazar lauded all doctors, nurses and the rest of hospital employees for their dedications to combat the pandemic given that some were given permission to leave their service.
“Out of the 200 plus doctors, 95 percent of those doctors are not from Bataan, and they are here. They stayed with us,” she added.
Baltazar also extolled the support of the provincial government, city government of Balanga, and Office of the Bataan Second District Representative on immediately responding to their concerns during the ongoing crisis such as the provision of daily meals, transportation and accommodation of BGHMC staff.
