TARLAC CITY (PIA) — Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) has partnered with Department of Agriculture (DA) in transforming parts of Camp Aquino into a vegetable farm.
“This project seeks to provide additional vegetable supplies to those severely affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ),” NOLCOM Commander LtGen. Ramiro Manuel Rey said.
Moreover, all subordinate units and families inside the camp will also engage in this urban farming project.
DA will be providing seedlings, fertilizers, and other materials for its implementation.
Subordinate Army, Air Force and Naval units deployed in Regions 1,2, 3 and Cordillera were likewise tasked to replicate the project in their respective areas.
“We, at NOLCOM are also looking forward at the other problems that coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may bring such as food scarcity. We want the people to stay inside their homes but it will be hard to do if they are starving. The government is doing its best to fully wipe out COVID-19, and what we need is the cooperation of the people,” the official said.
“We are doing our mandated task to protect and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the people, may it be through conventional or unconventional way,” Rey added.
ECQ, meant to curb the rising number of cases of COVID-19, will be implemented in the entire Luzon from March 17 to April 30.
