CABANATUAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the P96-million rehabilitation of a section of the San Leonardo–Peñaranda Road in Nueva Ecija.
Located fronting the Peñaranda Municipal Hall in Barangay Sinasajan, the upgraded 685.6-lineal-meter stretch was improved through the replacement of the existing 0.23-meter-thick concrete with a 0.28-meter-thick layer to boost durability and ride quality.
DPWH also applied 2,092.67 lineal meters of asphalt overlay to further enhance the road surface.
“To ensure the safety of motorists, thermoplastic pavement markings were likewise installed and road warning signs were placed along the improved stretch, making the route safer and more efficient for daily commuters and local transport,” DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan said.
OIC–Assistant District Engineer Leonora Cruz stressed that the upgraded road supports the community’s daily needs.
“By upgrading this key road section, travel has become smoother and safer for the public, while local economic activity is better supported — contributing to the continued development of the municipality,” Cruz said.
The project, funded under the 2025 national budget through the agency’s Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps program, addresses the daily transport and livelihood needs of residents, farmers, and small businesses.
The completion of this initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to delivering responsive infrastructure, which remains a priority as reaffirmed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in his 4th State of the Nation Address.
“Nagpupundar po kasi tayo para sa kinabukasan. We are not building only for today, we are building also for tomorrow,” Marcos emphasized.
The DPWH continues to implement infrastructure programs in support of the administration’s goal of building a strong foundation for inclusive growth, improved mobility, and a better quality of life for all Filipinos. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
