Olongapo City gets new evacuation center

OLONGAPO CITY – The Multi-Purpose Evacuation Center at Transcon area in Barangay Old Cabalan was formally turned-over to the City of Olongapo by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRM) Office in a simple ceremony held yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by Olongapo City Mayor Lenj C. Paulino, OCDR3 Shelby A. Ruiz, and DPWH Project Engineer Alejandro H. Pangan who signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) stipulating that the evacuation center will now be managed by the city government of Olongapo.

Mayor Lenj said that this evacuation center was a big help for his constituents especially in time of calamity as he point-out that it will lessen the load for public schools in case there were people who needs to be evacuated. Presently the city has 15 evacuation centers mostly in public schools.

Mayor Lenj thanked the DPWH and NDRRM who was funded the project, the trust that the city and have capability and can handle when there is disasters. The Multi-Purpose Evacuation Center can accommodate of 300 people in one time evacuation.
