OLONGAPO CITY – The local government here held a mass wedding ceremony during Valentine’s Day.
Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino presided the wedding of 106 couples during Valentine’s Day.
“If these couples have love that will last a life time, why not help them celebrate it?” “We want people to hold and cherish their partners for the rest of their lives, Paulino said. The mayor stated the annual event is part of the LGU’s thrust to ensure a decent and celebrated marriage for people who cannot dole out the money for a grand wedding.
“With marriage as the precursor to a family, we want our residents to know that family comes first in this city,” he said.
One of the oldest couples who were wed yesterday was Alejandro, 70 years old and Florita Paje, 59 years old. But age is just a number and their love transcends their age.
“We thank the mayor and the city of Olongapo for providing us a beautiful wedding near the river. The food was great, the cake was delicious and the setting is certainly memorable. We will forever cherish this moment,” Paje said. (Dante M. Salvana)
