OLONGAPO CITY — Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Olongapo City Federation committed to support the education of students despite the current pandemic.
In today’s Network Briefing News with Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar, SK Federation President Rodman Barroga said officials went around the different schools in their respective barangays to assess the needs of the schools and their students with the opening of classes.
“Based on our assessment, we see that different schools have different needs, both for the online and modular based learning. That is what we are trying to provide them to aid teachers and students with their classes,” Barroga said.
Among these, the SK official said, is the purchase and distribution of tablets and cellphones to some schools in the city.
Aside from this, Barroga said they are also planning to put WiFi spots in the city for those taking online classes.
In addition, he said other SK officials in other barangays are allocating budget for pocket WiFi, while others will be providing monthly load allowance for the indigent student-constituents.
Meanwhile, for those taking modular classes, the federation has provided school supplies and materials like expandable folders.
“We have already purchased and distributed 1,800 expandable folders. We are also procuring on the go USB to be distributed to schools because we saw the necessity of this especially for those who chose modular learning, which comprised around 80 percent of the Olongapo students,” Barroga said.
With this, the SK President assured that despite limitations in budget, they will do their best to provide the needs of students under the new normal.
“Our 2020 budget does not include the needs for online classes, but we are working it out to provide the basic needs of our schools and their students under our jurisdiction,” he said.
