OMB arrests illegal Chinese trader

An overstaying 50-year old Chinese tourist was arrested past noon yesterday by operatives of the Optical Media Board (OMB) for selling and largescale distribution of unregistered and unlicensed storage devices.

Newly-appointed OMB Chairman Atty. Christian D. Natividad (former undefeated Malolos City Mayor), identified the arrested alien as LIN QING QUN, 50, owner of raided store at Carriedo Plaza, #2 Carriedo St., Quiapo, Manila.

Qun, who initially claimed he does not understand Tagalog or English upon his arrest at his store admitted during tactical interrogation that is an overstaying chinese with expired tourist visa, and residing at 3275-A Dasmarinas-Tomas Pinpin, Binondo, Manila for more than six years already, according to the suspect himself.

Seized were pirated USB, assorted flashdrives, memory discs and other music video recording devices worth P1,527,000.00.

OMB operatives also recovered hundred-thousands worth of blank discs and memory flashdrives believed to be smuggled.

Qun is reportedly one of the biggest distributor of smuggled flashdrives and other high-end computer accesories in Manila. 

The initial OMB operations dubbed ‘MilkyWay’ started Monday with the seizure of some P2.9-M worth of smuggled laptops,  hard discs, and stand-alone CPUs with pirated O.S. recovered at the PC4U Trading locsted at Km. 16, ASTI Cmpd, Alabang-Zapote Road, Las Pinas City.

As of press time, the arrested alien is being processed and will be inquested before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office tomorrow morning.
