The people of Bocaue town, Bulacan will soon have a P40 million sports complex named after the late Mayor Joni Villanueva-Tugna.
Senator Joel Villanueva together with Congressman Domeng Rivera of the Citizens Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Party List graced the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mayor Joni Villanueva Sports Complex located in Barangay Binang 2nd in Bocaue on Tuesday.
The more than 1,100-square meter land according to Senator Villanueva was donated by the former mayor, her late sister to the local municipality which is her dream project prior to her death last May this year.
The sports complex was funded by the senator and CIBAC Party List while the construction will be handled by the Bulacan First District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) headed by District Engineer Henry Alcantara.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on former Mayor Joni Villanueva’s birthday. Senator Villanueva said that every November 24 of the year will have a significant program or project for Bocaueños in honor of the late mayor.
“Hindi kami bibitiw sa mga pangarap ni Mayor Joni para sa bayan, gaya ng kaniyang sinasabi nang nabubuhay pa… Bocaueños deserves nothing but only the best,” according to Sen Villanueva as he compared her sister to a “lamp” who gives light and hope for her constituents until to her last breath during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Municipal Councilor Atty. Gidgette Jose said, to make the dream sports complex come true for the people of Bocaue, Senator Villanueva and Congressman Rivera continued the late mayor’s projects.
The senator added the sports complex which will be named after her sister and can also be used as an evacuation center. The construction will be completed next year.
During the groudbreaking ceremony, a cheque amounting to P500,00 from the Local Government Support Fund was handed to 15 village chiefs for the purchase of 15 multicabs for their barangays.
