Pamintuan: LCP supports Duterte stance vs mayors involved in drugs

THE LEAGUE of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) has expressed its full support to the position of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte against local officials involved in illegal drugs, which he articulated during a meeting with the country’s mayors on Jan. 11 in Malacanang.

“The LCP leadership believes that it is totally unacceptable for local officials to be into illegal drugs in any way, as user, protector or dealer. Local officials, particularly mayors, should in fact be at the forefront of the war against illegal drugs,” LCP president Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said in a statement.

“We subscribe with the President’s position that any mayor or local official involved in any activity related to drugs should be dealt with the full force of the law,” he added.

According to Pamintuan, the LCP will not condone and will even help prosecute any of its members who are into drugs.

“Those who may be in the President’s list should immediately clear themselves or face the consequences that the President has stressed on during his meeting with the mayors,” Pamintuan stressed.

“We call on all our members to be pro-active in eradicating the menace in their respective areas, even as the LCP commits to implement its own program towards freeing our communities of drugs,” he ended.
