CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Pampanga Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council bested other provincial DRRMCs in Central Luzon in the search for outstanding local anti-disaster unit in the region, the Office of Civil Defense announced Monday.
The Pampanga DRRMC is headed by newly-elected Governor Dennis Pineda with Angie Blanco as executive director.
The annual search, according to OCD regional director Marlou Salazar, is aimed at giving due recognition to DRRMC’s performance and individuals who have showed heroic deeds in the event of disaster and emergency.
“The awardees may serve as an inspirations to other DRRMCs in Central Luzon for them to work harder,” said Salazar in a press statement.
Winners in the 21st Regional Gawad Kalasag Award will be automatically be nominated for national awards. The awarding slated next month would be held in Camp Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Other awardees are Angeles City DRRMC for highly-urbanized city category and City of San Fernando for component city category.
School category winners are Alas Asin Elementary School from Mariveles, Bataan (Public Elementary); Camp Tinio National High School from Cabanatuan City (Public Secondary); Sindalan National Child Development Center from City of San Fernando (Early Learning Center); and Tarlac Agricultural University (Higher Education Institution).
Medical institution category winners are Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center from Cabanatuan City (National), Mariveles Mental Hospital from Bataan (Specialty), and James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital from Olongapo City (Local Government Unit).
Special recognition will be conferred to Bulacan Rescue for its Local Government Emergency Management and Response Team and Tactical Operations Group 3, Philippine Air Force for its Heroic Act.
Awarding is slated this July in line with the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month.
