SM Supermalls in Pampanga joined the nationwide celebration of SM’s 60th anniversary.
The anniversary celebration for SM City Clark, SM City Pampanga and SM San Fernando Downtown on May 25 was pastel-themed with huge gift boxes that contained prizes for selected guests.
Bien Mateo, SM Supermalls vice president for operations in Northern Luzon, led the anniversary celebration.
In his speech, Mateo recalled how SM founder Henry Sy Sr., opened the first Shoemart store in downtown Manila, introducing exciting new merchandising and retailing concepts in 1958.
“In 1972, Shoemart evolved into a department store, becoming SM, which has been synonymous with one-stop shopping excitement…Malls became part of the Filipino lifestyle, places where families and friends could shop together, dine together, and have fun together in world class surroundings,” Mateo said.
During the celebration at SM City Clark, a 1960s band played music popular during the early years of SM including the “We’ve got it all for you” jingle of the mall, which they originally wrote.
Present during the event include local officials led by Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.
Some celebrities including Ysabel Ortega also joined the event including SM child stars Chun Sa Jung and Marco Cabais.
To date, SM has close to a thousand retail stores, and 70 malls in the Philippines, and 7 malls in China. –Photos by Ric Gonzales
