CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda on Monday urged poultry raisers and owners to cooperate and support the move to federalize the poultry industry in the province.
The vice governor called for the move to come up with a unified organization of the poultry industry in Pampanga during a Poultry Stakeholders Forum held at the Benigno Aquino Hall, Capitol Compound here.
Pineda said this would help the government to address the needs of the poultry industry in times of calamities like the avian influenza flu virus.
A federated poultry industry would be an effective way of coordinating fast and efficient response to such problems, Pineda said.
“The poultry industry is something that we should not take lightly. When there is a problem affecting the industry it affects many people,” Pineda said, adding that the recent bird flu outbreak in San Luis town is a lesson learned for Pampanga.
Pineda said through the federated poultry industry, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan will set aside funding from the provincial government intended for the poultry industry. Pineda also assured those affected by the recent culling operations of support from the provincial government.
He furthered that there is a now a need to strengthen the biosecurity protocols of Pampanga.
Pineda said also directed 3rd District Board Member Ananias Canlas to go to China to look at best practices in containing bird flu outbreaks.
“What I ask from the poultry sector is to keep united so that we can address problems more effectively,” Pineda said.
Over the week, Pineda distributed P750,000 worth of payments to individuals who culled fowls during the outbreak of avian influenza virus in San Luis town.
