PBBM appoints veteran banker as BSP board member

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has appointed veteran banker Walter C. Wassmer as a member of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) Monetary Board (MB).

The new MB Member (MBM) joins BSP Governor and MB Chairman Eli M. Remolona, Jr., Department of Finance Secretary and MBM Ralph G. Recto, and MBMs Benjamin E. Diokno, Romeo L. Bernardo and Rosalia V. De Leon in the BSP’s highest policy-making body.

Mr. Wassmer will serve the remaining term of former MBM V. Bruce J. Tolentino until July 2026. Mr. Tolentino resigned from his post effective 30 June 2024.  

             “Walter Wassmer brings with him decades of banking experience which will prove invaluable to the policy-making body and the decisions of the Monetary Board,” said Governor Remolona.

Mr. Wassmer joined BDO in 1997 and served as part of top management as Senior Executive Vice President-Head of Institutional Banking until his retirement in 2022. He joined the BDO board that year. Previously he served at Far East Bank & Trust Co., UnionBank of the Philippines, Bancom Finance Corp., and IFC Leasing and Acceptance Corp.

He took up Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Management of Financial Institutions from De La Salle University and attended the Management Development Program at the Asian Institute of Management.
