Pelayo urges Candaba mayor to investigate ₱1.4B flood control project, Sto. Cristo construction

CANDABA, Pampanga – Former Candaba mayor Jerry Pelayo has called on incumbent Mayor Rene Maglanque, Vice Mayor Thelma Macapagal and the municipal council to launch an investigation into the controversial ₱1.4-billion flood control projects in the town.

In a public statement, Pelayo thanked residents and netizens for sharing videos and reports about problems in the flood control structures, many of which, he said, were linked to Santo Cristo Construction.

“Ang sagot lang po dito ay flood control projects. Wala pong iba, wala pong personal, walang politika. Ang tanong lang po dito, kayo po ba ay tutulong para malaman natin ang katotohanan?” Pelayo asked.

The former mayor said he has already formally written to Maglanque and Vice Mayor Macapagal stressing that as elected officials, they hold the authority to investigate the matter on behalf of Candabeños.

Pelayo added that he would step back, leaving the responsibility to current officials to act on residents’ complaints. “Tapos na po. Hinihintay na lang natin ang kasagutan ninyo kung kayo po ay aaksyon sa request ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.

Residents of Candaba, according to Pelayo, are now awaiting the local government’s official response on whether an investigation into the flood control projects and Santo Cristo Construction will be pursued.
