PEP highlights Pampanga’s cultural heritage

Delegates of the Philippine Experience Program (PEP) immersed themselves in Kapampangan culture during a special pop-up event held at Museo Ning Angeles.

The event showcased Pampanga’s rich traditions through hands-on activities. Local artist Lloyd Dacayanan introduced participants to Kulitan, the indigenous Kapampangan script, offering a unique opportunity to learn this traditional form of writing.

Delegates also crafted parol, the iconic Filipino Christmas lanterns, using paper and bamboo. This activity celebrated a beloved holiday tradition deeply rooted in Filipino culture.

In the museum’s Culinarium, participants engaged in culinary heritage by preparing patcû, a Kapampangan delicacy typically made during the Christmas season. This sweet treat, a crepe made from glutinous rice and freshly grated mature coconut, is wrapped in banana leaves, reflecting Pampanga’s culinary ingenuity.

The experiential tourism initiative underscored Angeles City’s and Pampanga’s cultural significance, fostering appreciation for local traditions. It also reinforced PEP’s goal of showcasing regional identities while promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism practices across the Philippines.
