TOKYO, Japan – The Philippine Air Force (PAF) Karate-Do Team showcased outstanding skill and determination at the 23rd Furinkazan National and International Martial Arts Karate Exchange Tournament, held on January 19, 2025, at Yoyogi National Stadium.
Competing against top martial artists from around the world, the PAF athletes secured an impressive eight medals, reinforcing their prowess on the international stage.
Leading the team was 2LT Grace O. Ripalda PAF, who clinched gold in the 3rd Dan Kumite Women division.
Silver medals went to Sgt Jhonna Jerrylyn C. Paz PAF, who excelled in both 1st Dan Kumite Women and Individual Kata Women categories.
Bronze medalists included Sgt Mariden P. Crusit PAF (General Women Kumite), AM Rhyan Jay S. Acac PAF (General Men Kumite), Sgt John Mark A. Caponpon PAF (1st Dan Kumite Men), A2C Aeron Amil L. Salvacion PAF (1st Dan Kumite Men), and Sgt Ric B. Maanao PAF (3rd Dan Kumite Men).
This victory highlights the PAF’s commitment to developing disciplined, well-rounded soldier-athletes who excel in both military service and competitive sports.
The PAF extended its congratulations to the team for their remarkable performance, expressing gratitude for bringing pride and honor not only to the Air Force community but also to the Philippines.
