MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ramped up its efforts to hold personnel accountable following the issuance of arrest warrants for individuals implicated in a multi-billion peso drug bust in 2022.
Of the 30 PNP personnel named in the case, 29 have had arrest warrants issued by Hon. Gwyn Calina of the Regional Trial Court Branch 44, National Capital Judicial Region, for alleged violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
In a statement, PNP Chief Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil vowed decisive action against those involved. “There will be no mercy when it comes to wrongdoings committed by our personnel. This demonstrates our commitment to eradicating corruption and maintaining public trust,” Marbil said.
The implicated group includes 22 active personnel, two retirees, three early retirees, one who has resigned, and two already dismissed from service.
To expedite accountability, Police Major General Edgar Alan O. Okubo, Chief of the Directorial Staff, has been tasked with forming a dedicated team to ensure swift arrests. Administrative cases will also be pursued, with potential sanctions ranging up to dismissal.
“This operation underscores the PNP’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal activities while ensuring accountability, justice, and adherence to due process,” Marbil added.
The PNP urged public support as it works to restore trust in the institution. The crackdown highlights the organization’s commitment to addressing misconduct within its ranks and ensuring that those responsible face criminal and administrative consequences.
“We assure the public that justice will be served,” Marbil said, promising action against those who tarnished the PNP’s integrity.
