Philippine tourism leaders discuss industry growth

In a meeting held on October 14 at the DOT Central Office in Makati City, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and Tourism Congress of the Philippines (TCP) President James M. Montenegro discussed major developments in the tourism industry. The TCP presented updates on collaborations with local governments and private stakeholders, improvements in standards, and enhanced marketing strategies aimed at boosting Philippine tourism’s global competitiveness.

Secretary Frasco highlighted the DOT’s initiatives to strengthen the tourism value chain, promote the country’s offerings, and support the private sector. She emphasized the importance of fostering strategic partnerships among stakeholders to create effective policies and programs.

The DOT fully supports TCP’s efforts to expand membership, ensuring equal opportunities for accredited tourism enterprises to contribute to shaping national tourism policies.

Other officials present included TCP Vice President for Visayas Peter Tay, DOT Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Undersecretary Verna Buensuceso, Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao, Undersecretary Maria Rica Bueno, and Head Executive Assistant Frances Villarino.
