Based on 2018 data of the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA), the demand, both local and global, for nurses is high, more so for well-trained nurse practitioners. In the United States, there is a projected 15% growth in the employment of nurses, going all the way to 2026, according to the US Department of Labor. In an article dated July 29, 2018 in Manila Bulletin, it was reported that Germany is accepting 400 applicants for nurses while in Saudi Arabia, the number is closer to 1,000.
In the Philippines, Nursing as a profession is seen by most people as means to a better life. This is partly due to the attraction of earning in dollars or Euros in countries which have high demand for well-trained Filipino nurses. Thus, the school which aspiring nurses pick to be their foundational and training ground in the Philippines, is one of the most crucial factors in their journey towards getting their Nursing degree and achieving their dream of giving their families more comfortable lives.
PHINMA Education’s BS Nursing program teaches nursing concepts alongside Related Learning Experiences (RLE). RLEs are learning opportunities that develop the competencies of nursing students by utilizing processes in various health situations. Much like a practicum or on-the-job-training, nursing students take their RLEs not only in hospitals but also in clinics, schools, industrial establishments, and community health centers.
The program’s outcome-based curriculum, with simulated clinical and active learning activities, trains students to be not just skillful nurses but also competent individuals. In this teaching method, students have goals which they need to complete at the end of each term. It provides students with an intensive, supervised practical application of their studies, giving them the much-needed skills necessary in the nursing profession.
PHINMA Education has turned out Nursing board topnotchers over the years, the latest among them Tristan Mark Robosa, who took the top slot in the June 2018 board exams, together with Chielon Abalos and Daisy Albright Fernandez, placing seventh and tenth respectively. All three graduated from the University of Pangasinan (PHINMA UPang) in Dagupan City, which for the past two years has been a top performing school in the Nursing Board examinations.
