PIA relief drive benefits 750 indigents

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — About 750 indigent Kapampangans benefitted from the three-day relief drive of Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Regional Office 3 dubbed #ProjectHatidMalasakit.

PIA Regional Director William Beltran said the three-day activity seeks to assist the national government in providing food assistance to those severely affected by the implemented Enhanced Community Quarantine due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“As long as there is a Filipino who shows compassion to a fellow Filipino, there is still hope in this country. We must continue giving hope to one another as we face this crisis. Together we will rise again from this pandemic,” Beltran stressed.

On the first day, a total of 200 families in an Aeta community in barangay Villa Maria, Porac received assistance.

Punong Barangay Rogelio Valencia said PIA was the first to visit in their upland barangay for the conduct of the relief operation.

On the second day, 200 families in a resettlement area in barangay Pio also in Porac got assistance.

Beneficiaries were survivors of the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption, who are now living at the Model Community Resettlement Center in the town.

And on the third day, 350 families of barangay San Isidro in San Simon were given relief items.

All beneficiaries in the three-day drive each got 5 kilos of rice and 10 pieces of assorted canned goods.

Pampanga Police Provincial Office and the Technology Resource Center served as PIA’s partners in the augmentation of relief goods to accommodate more recipients.

“We want to make you feel that despite the challenges we are facing, the national government thru PIA and the police will continue to support your daily needs until this problem is solved,” Police Provincial Director PCol. Jean Fajardo emphasized.

A similar initiative was done by the PIA Provincial Information Centers in Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac.
