MANILA, Philippines – Pilita Corrales, hailed as the “Asia’s Queen of Songs,” passed away on Saturday, April 12. She was 85.
Known for her powerful voice and timeless elegance, Corrales was behind some of OPM’s most enduring hits, including Kapantay Ay Langit, Dahil Sa Iyo, Ang Pipit, and Ikaw Na Lamang. Her passing was confirmed by her granddaughter, actress Janine Gutierrez.
Corrales’ legacy spans more than six decades, influencing generations of Filipino musicians and earning her a revered place in Philippine music history.
Her contributions helped define and elevate Original Pilipino Music (OPM), making her one of the most iconic figures in the industry.
