CAPAS, Tarlac— Visitors trekking to Mt. Pinatubo are discovering that the journey to the crater is not only about the dramatic landscape of mountains, lahar, and dust, but also about the resourcefulness of local entrepreneurs along the trail.
Small roadside stalls have emerged along parts of the route, offering refreshments and quick meals to hikers and tourists. From cold drinks and grilled corn to chicken inasal and liempo, the vendors provide much-needed food and water for travelers making their way through the rugged terrain.
Some stalls also sell souvenirs, plants, and even slippers for hikers who may need emergency supplies during the trip.
The presence of these small businesses highlights the entrepreneurial spirit of local communities, particularly Indigenous groups living near Mt. Pinatubo, who have found opportunities to earn a livelihood from the growing tourism activity in the area. CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS CIO
