VATICAN CITY — The coffin of Pope Francis was transferred on Wednesday from Casa Santa Marta to St. Peter’s Basilica, where the faithful will have the opportunity to pay their final respects.

The Holy Father passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88, following a stroke that led to a coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.

Preparations are underway at the basilica for the days of mourning and liturgical rites that will follow, as the universal Church gathers in prayer and remembrance for the beloved pontiff.
