The official portrait of Felipe Sonsong, a Kapampangan martyr and potential future Filipino saint, has been presented to the Church.

The Holy Angel University – Center for Kapampangan Studies (HAU-CKS) led the presentation to Archbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando on January 29. Also present was the group Cáluguran ng Apung Ipé, headed by Don Mauro Gomez.

The portrait was painted by Ariel Caratao, the grand winner of the 2018 GSIS National Art Competition.

Sonsong, a soldier-turned-Jesuit missionary in the 1600s, passed away in 1686—14 years after the martyrdom of Saint Pedro Calungsod. The Congregation of Discalced Augustinians in Rome is currently overseeing the process of his beatification.
