To support local golf professionals during the sport’s lean season, businessman and philanthropist Bong Pineda is backing the Pradera Verde Open with a total prize fund of P4 million.

Set at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao, Pampanga, the event tees off this week with 55 professionals—40 men and 15 women—competing in a 72-hole tournament that also includes a pro-am format.

The men’s division offers a P300,000 top purse, with the rest of the 35-player field guaranteed a minimum of P16,500 each. The women’s division champion will take home P130,000, with all participants assured of at least P20,000.

“The event is all about helping the pros stay competitive ahead of major events later this year,” said Pradera Verde General Manager Mike Singgaran. “Tatay Bong Pineda wants to ensure our athletes are in top form for international competition.”

The Philippines is scheduled to host two significant tournaments: a leg of the Asian Development Tour at Luisita and a $2-million International Series stop at Sta. Elena in October.

Meanwhile, the amateur side of the Pradera Verde Open will feature a separate prize pool of P1.5 million, spanning three divisions—regular, senior, and ladies—with multiple handicap classifications. The event also boasts hole-in-one prizes sponsored by leading automotive and sports brands.

Vehicles from Chery and Lynk & Co, scooters from the Laus Group, a golf cart from The Turf Co., and a premium golf set from J-Ten Sports are among the major prizes. The total value of hole-in-one packages is estimated at over P4 million.

The tournament is held in partnership with Inquirer Golf as media partner.
