President Marcos leads turn-over of NIA excavators

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT– Led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. the turnover of 141 units of wheeled excavators worth PhP776 million for the field offices of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in a ceremony held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone this Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

Such heavy equipment is part of the NIA’s program to accelerate the development of irrigation throughout the country.

This is part of the agency’s 3 year re-fleeting program for the year 2023-2025 to ensure efficient and effective operation and maintenance of irrigation systems.

The said project highlights the government’s efforts to have a major impact on the irrigation sector in the country, as well as to improve agricultural production and welfare of Filipino farmers.

Earlier, the president presided over the inauguration of the Balbalungao Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (BSRIP) in Nueva Ecija.

On that occasion, Marcos called for cooperation in fighting the effects of the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to last until the second quarter of 2024.

He reminded government agencies to fast track the completion of irrigation facilities and other structures.

“We must be prepared to counter its effect, which may last until the second quarter of 2024,” President Marcos said in his speech.
