PRO3 intensifies crackdown on loose firearms for 2025 polls

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) has intensified its crackdown on loose firearms in Central Luzon as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure 2025 midterm elections.

On February 7, 2025, authorities in Barangay Papaya, San Antonio, Nueva Ecija, facilitated the voluntary surrender of multiple unlicensed firearms from alleged members of a private armed group. The operation was led by the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (NEPPO) under PRO3’s “Balik Baril” Program.

Among the surrendered firearms were five .45 caliber pistols, a .380 caliber pistol, an M16 rifle, and a 12-gauge shotgun, along with magazines and ammunition. Police said the program, in coordination with local government units and other law enforcement agencies, helped encourage individuals to turn in their illegal weapons.

PRO3 regional director PBGEN Jean S. Fajardo lauded NEPPO’s efforts in curbing the presence of private armed groups. She stressed that the campaign against illegal firearms is crucial in preventing election-related violence in the region.

“This is a decisive step toward a safer and more secure election. The surrender of these firearms shows that our efforts are working. We will not allow illegal weapons or armed groups to disrupt peace in Central Luzon,” Fajardo said.

As the election nears, PRO3 continues to urge individuals in possession of unlicensed firearms to surrender them voluntarily. The police vowed to remain vigilant in dismantling threats that could undermine the democratic process.

Authorities reiterated that the PNP is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a secure voting environment, warning that those who refuse to comply with firearms regulations will face legal consequences.
