Prospective Tarlac seed growers join inbred rice production training

TARLAC CITY — About 35 prospective seed growers in city of Tarlac and municipality of Pura joined a five-day intensive training on Inbred Rice Production and Seed Certification.

“Our goal is to make the province of Tarlac rice sufficient. And as prospective seed grower, we expect everyone on this training to become part of attaining the goal,” Tarlac City Mayor Cristy Angeles said. 

Organized by Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Central Luzon in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office III and Bureau of Plant and Industry, the activity aimed to articulate the rice industry situationer in the region, discuss the policies and guidelines on certification for rice, and demonstrate skills in seedbed preparation, planting, roguing, and seed testing.

The participants are expected to become registered seed growers in the region.

The activity is conducted under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund and it is part of the Rice Extension Services Program headed by ATI.
