DAVAO CITY – Senator Christopher Lawrence Go said Friday that President Rodrigo Duterte will decide on Monday (August 31), the replacement of Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) president and chief executive officer Ricardo Morales.
Morales resigned from his post on August 26 after President Duterte said would be “best” for the embattled PhilHealth chief to let go of his current position.
“The president called me this early morning and told me that he has somebody in his mind to replace [Morales] and will make his decision on Monday,” Go9 said.
The senator said there was a need for an immediate replacement so that PhilHealth’s services remain unhampered.
Still, Go said Morales’ resignation will not end the corruption probe on the agency, saying he believes that the main problem at PhilHealth is the “manipulation” perpetrated by low-level personnel.
“Someone should be held accountable. We should get to the bottom of this deeply rooted and systemic corruption in PhilHealth,” he said.
The senator said investigation will not end “until the agency is cured of corruption and those responsible for the irregularities are brought to justice. It’s the money of the people. Let us give our fellowmen the rightful service that they deserve.”
Moreover, Go said that “both curative and preventive” measures are needed to completely stamp out the “systemic and systematic corruption” not only in PhilHealth but also the entire government. (PNA)
