BALER, Aurora – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducted a training session for municipalities in Aurora to support the adoption of the Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC), aiming to improve local business registry systems.
The initial session was attended by eight Business Permit and Licensing Officers (BPLOs) and other personnel from Casiguran, Dilasag and Dinalungan.
PSA Aurora Statistical Specialist Irene Sindac said the training is vital in ensuring the accuracy and consistency of business data at the local level—an essential foundation for evidence-based policymaking.
“PSIC provides a standardized framework that enables local government units (LGUs) to align their business registries with national standards, resulting in more reliable data and more efficient permit processing,” she furthered.
The training covered key topics, including the fundamentals of statistical classification systems, the application of PSIC and the Philippine Standard Geographic Code, and demonstrations of updated reference files.
It also addressed common challenges in economic classification and local implementation, highlighting their importance in policy formulation and planning.
PSA plans to roll out similar training sessions across other municipalities in Aurora to ensure province-wide adoption of standardized registry practices.
In addition to the training, PSA provides ongoing technical support and regular data updates to help local government units (LGUs) maintain accurate records and streamline permit procedures—efforts that contribute to long-term economic development.
“Through this initiative, PSA fosters continued collaboration with LGUs to ensure business registries remain responsive to the evolving needs of Aurora’s economy,” Sindac added.
By equipping local officials with the necessary tools and knowledge, PSA aims to foster a transparent, efficient business environment that supports investment and sustainable growth across the province. (CLJD/MAT, PIA Region 3-Aurora)
