PSA urges public cooperation for 2024 census, community-based monitoring

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) urged the public to cooperate in the 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (PopCen-CBMS) in Central Luzon.

During the ninth episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, PSA Regional Director Arlene Divino emphasized the importance of the data generated by this initiative.

“This data is crucial for data-driven decision-making, implementing government policies, and strengthening social protection programs,” she said.

Divino highlighted the importance of integrating the PopCen with the CBMS operations ahead of its original 2025 schedule.

“We found it important to make the best use of government resources and prevent respondent fatigue. Therefore, we are incorporating the 2025 population census into this year’s schedule alongside the community-based monitoring system,” she explained.

The 2024 PopCen-CBMS will update the country’s population inventory and the list of beneficiaries of social protection initiatives.

The enumeration period began on July 15, and the PSA urges all sectors of society to participate actively and encourage others to do the same.

“The first part includes questions about the population census, which everyone is required to answer. The second part pertains to the CBMS, and while participation is voluntary under the law, we urge people to respond. Not participating means missing the opportunity to be listed as a beneficiary in various government programs,” Divino added.

PSA remains committed to ensuring that the 2024 PopCen-CBMS provides accurate and comprehensive data to support effective government interventions in addressing poverty. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3- Pampanga)
