Rains over parts of Luzon due to LPA, southwest monsoon Friday

MANILA – Parts of Luzon will experience rains due to a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon affecting the island, the weather bureau said Friday.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was last tracked 310 km. north northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, or at 210 km. east of Aparri, Cagayan.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA has a high chance to develop into a weak tropical depression either within the day or Saturday. It will be named, “Igme”, the ninth tropical cyclone in the country, he added.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate winds will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas, where coastal waters will be moderate.

Over Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
