Bataan First District Rep. Geraldine B. Roman on Sunday led the launching of the “Oh My Gulay! Healthy Na, May Kita Pa Program” in Barangay Tucop, Dinalupihan, Bataan.
Roman was joined by Tucop village chief Morito David along with a women’s group members and residents in the said town.
Initially, Congresswoman Roman distributed various vegetable seeds to two clusters of beneficiaries from Luacan and Tucop mostly housewives who are members of the Kababaihan ng Bataan Tungo sa Kaunlaran (KABAKA).
In her Facebook live post, Roman said this program, aims to promote organic home gardening and backyard farming to her beneficiaries especially during this time of Covid-19 pandemic while most of the residents are under government quarantine.
“Tinuturuan po at nagbigay ng briefer si Mr. Art Matias, municipal agriculturist ng Orani, sa mga beneficiaries na magtanim sa pamamaraan na organic na hindi gumagamit ng commercial pesticides at fertilizers,” Roman told village captain David.
Congresswoman Roman also urged her constituents to have a healthy diet like eating more vegetables for a healthy, strong body to fight common diseases especially those who lack proper nutrition in their diets and to minimize eating of processed meats.
The program also aims to give additional income and livelihood to housewives in this time of crisis when most of the jobs were lost due to coronavirus pandemic.
“Magkakaroon din po tayo ng contest, paramihan ng ani, pahabaan ng talong, palakihan ng pechay, etc.” Roman added.
This pilot project has an initial 630 beneficiaries and will soon expand to accommodate more Bataeños.
