Roman warns public vs fake social media accounts

Bataan First District Representative, Congresswoman Geraldine Roman on Sunday issued a warning to the public about fake social media accounts that are impersonating her.

Roman, who is known for being active on social media, has urged her constituents and followers to be wary of accounts pretending to be her.

In a statement, Roman said, “I want to warn everyone that there are fake accounts out there pretending to be me. These accounts are spreading false information and misleading the public. I urge everyone to be vigilant and to follow only my official social media accounts.”

Roman, who is the first openly transgender person to be elected to Congress in the Philippines, has been a vocal advocate for gender equality and human rights. She regularly updates her followers on her work in Congress through her social media accounts.

To ensure that the public receives accurate and up-to-date information about her work, Roman has provided a list of her official social media accounts via her official Facebook Page: “Geraldine Roman” with 311k followers; her official TikTok account is “geraldineromantik”;  and her official Instagram account is “geraldinebroman.”

“I want to assure everyone that I am committed to serving the people of Bataan and the Philippines. I will continue to use my platforms to promote transparency and accountability in government,” Roman told this reporter.

She also urged the public to report any fake accounts pretending to be her to the appropriate authorities.

Roman’s warning comes amid a rise in fake social media accounts and misinformation online. As more and more people rely on social media for news and information, she said, it is essential to verify the authenticity of the sources of information.
